Silver is a precious metal and much like gold is too fine to be used in the making of jewelry pieces at its purest form (100% pue silver). In order for silver to be used in the creation of jewelry, pure silver (999 fineness) is often mixed with small quantities of other hard metals, thus comes sterling silver (our is 95.5% or .950).
